- A PAIR OF SILVER AND SHIBAYAMA INLAID GOLD LACQUER VASES, MEIJI PERIOD
- 17cm high
each with tall flared silver neck and high bracket foot enamelled with floral motifs, the gold lacquer ground inset with two shaped rectangular ivory panels inlaid with different species of birds perched among seasonal flowering plants
Condition
One with inlay of tail of bird missing. One pin missing on silver shoulder edge (lifting from lacquer body around one side). Silver base loose where attatched to body. Dent to lacquer body at lower edge of one panel with crack approximately 2mm beneath panel. The other vase - two silver petals of mouth slightly bent down, one pin missing from shoulder edge attatchment to body. Inlaid wing of one bird missing, Silver base slightly loose. Panels on both vases with slight gaps inside silver borders.
