Description

each piece colorfully painted with a floral spray and scattered sprigs within four or five gilt-edged cartouches painted with birds in branches on a Dulong-molded rim, comprising: an oval large tureen stand, an oval small platter, an oval small dish, three circular large dishes in two sizes, two saucer dishes, a fluted pentagonal dish, a small saucer dish, a sauceboat and a two-handled, double-lipped sauceboat. Together with a Meissen oval tureen, cover and stand, mid 18th century, similarly decorated with flower cartouches, the cover with a lemon knop and applied with mushrooms and various vegetables, crossed swords or crossed swords and dot marks in underglaze-blue, and various impressed numerals. Some minor chips. 15 pieces.

Condition

The tureen generally good, but one handle with tiny gilded-over chips on the scroll behind the cauliflower; and both handles with very slight wear to the gilding on the scroll tips. The cover with ¾-inch (2-cm.) of the lemon stem chipped away and taking with it a 3/8-inch (1-cm.) edge of the leaf. The tall mushroom with a 1/8-inch (4-mm.) chip on the edge of its cap, and the clove with a minuscule chip on its edge; the gilding on the edge with a tiny 2-mm. spot of wear on the upper ege of the band beneath the tall mushroom. The stand with some slight patchy wear to the gilding along one side of the rim an on the molded handle ends; and the center with minor wear and scratching from use. 20 1/8-inch oval platter - scratching and minor wear to the center from use. The rim with considerable patchy wear to the gilding on the edge, on the cartouche edges and on the handles, both of which have rubbing to the glaze on their outer edges, and one has a tiny (2-mm.) chip on the outer edge. Two of the three struts on the underside with chips. 11 11/16-inch oval platter - the center with very slight scratching to the glaze, but the rim with serious patchy wear to the gilding on the edge and around the cartouches. 8 3/8-inch oval dish - the center with wear to one green leaf because of a lump in the clay under it, and light scratching to the glaze from use. The rim with minor wear to the gilt edge an to the gilding around the cartouches. The exterior of the rim at 6 o'clock with a ½-inch (1.3-cm.) patch where the glaze didn't take quite right. 14 13/16-inch circular dish - good condition. Pair of 12 1/2-inch circular dishes - good condition. Pair of 9 7/8-inch saucer dishes - both with some central wear and scratching from use, and both with wear to the gilding on the rim edge, quite serious on one, and the gilding around the cartouches on that dish also with some wear. The other dish with less wear around the cartouches and rim, but the gilding on the rim edge also touched up, particularly from 2 to 3 o'clock, at 5 o'clock an at 12 o'clock, where there are some touched up chips. Fluted pentagonal dish - the rim with very patchy wear to the gilding, and slight wear to the gilding around the cartouches. The rim edge with a 1/8-inch (4-mm.) chip at 9 o'clock. Otherwise OK. 7-inch saucer dish - the center with a little wear from use, and the rim with very patchy wear to the gilding on the ege and around the cartouches. Otherwise OK. Sauceboat - good condition, but a firing crack at the upper edge of the lower join of the handle to the body. Two-handled sauceboat - slight wear to the gilding around the rim edge and around the cartouches under the spouts. One side foot with a small touched-up chip; and both end feet with several small touched-up chips. One handle with tiny green enamel flakes. Otherwise OK
