with die-rolled rose borders and detachable nozzle, the base engraved "Belle N. Whitney," marked center of base IS in rectangle and F. in square.
Catalogue Note
The die-rolled rose border appears on a presentation ewer by William Gale and John Stickler, New York, 1821, in the collection of the Museum of the City of New York (Waters #177). Although the marks on the offered chamberstick are not recorded, the IS mark may be that of the merchant John Stickler, and the F that of his supplier, perhaps William Forbes.
