Catalogue Note
Although the print or prints that served as the inspiration for this decoration have not been traced, it clearly represents a recurring theme in the 18th century of 'Marital Discord and Concord.'
A small oval dish from the same service, which was a Christmas present in 1949 from King Umberto to Eduardo Malta, is illustrated by Hyde, Silva and Malta, p. 49. A silver-shape coffee pot with this decoration was sold at Sotheby's in London on November 18, 1998, lot 1096.
