Very good condition overall. Very minor surface abrasions at the right foot and hand.

The Marquesians lashed these sculptural steps to stilts (vaeke), which were used during ceremonial funeral rites for important individuals. See Kjellgren (2005: 17, fig. 5) for an historical illustration by Capt. David Porter (1780 - 1843) showing how the step was attached to the stake.
