Description

  • An impressive bookcase cabinet
  • 234cm. high by 198cm. wide by 40cm. deep;
  • 7 ft 8in., 6 ft 6in., 1 ft 4in.
mahogany inlaid with satinwood and chequer banding, of inverted breakfront form, the shaped upper shelf above a panelled back, the moulded cornice with elaborate foliate inlay above astragal glazed cupboard doors enclosing adjustable shelves, the lower section centred by a fall front secretaire with gren leather writing inset to the reverse and enclosing an arrangement of small drawers and pigeon holes, flanked by pedestal supports with an arrangement of small drawers and cupboard doors on shaped bracket feet

Condition

A striking and impressive piece of good overall appearance, the piece is less rich and of a more brown tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. It is unusual to see this piece with the upper panelled gallery. Minor old marks and scratches consistent with age and use. There is a 10 cm split to the timber to the top of the lower section, to the right side. One or two very minor sections of stringing lacking. With two keys. One or two small sections of moulding detached and a 5 cm section of moulding lacking to one side. Some minor scuffs to the feet as seen in the catalogue ilustration. Reverse of the leather writing inset with typical ink stains. Overall, this piece is in good condition and is ready for display.
