Catalogue Note

This design was registered by William Watt in 1876 (no. 305188), and the registration drawing is in the National Archives at Kew, London. There is a line drawing of the model in William Watt, Art Furniture from Designs by E.W. Godwin, F.S.A., London, 1877, pl. 8, (as seen below) and Soros notes that it was included in Watt's display at the 1878 Exposition Universelle in Paris (p. 114-15). Only one other extant example of the form has been recorded.
This example is illustrated Elizabeth Aslin, E.W. Godwin, Furniture and Interior Decoration, London, 1986, Plate 64.   Now in a private collection in the USA.
