Bernhard Luginbühl zählt zu den bedeutendsten Schweizer Bildhauern und Eisenplastikern der Gegenwart. 1949 entstand Luginbühls erste Skulptur aus Eisen (ein Stier) und seither sind seine aus diesem rohen ursprünglichen Material gefertigten, meist grossformatigen Eisenplastiken, zu seinem Erkennungszeichen geworden. Seit 1953 entstehen Eisenskulpturen, die körperenergetisches und konstruktives in eindrücklichem Volumen verbinden wie die „C-Figuren" (ab 1958). Die Form der „C-Figuren" lässt an ein offenes Rechteck mit ineinandergeschobenen Elementen in eckiger C-Form denken. Je nach Seitenansicht erlaubt die Form andere Ein- und Durchblicke, wirkt sie leichter oder schwerer, öffnet oder verschliesst sie sich dem Betrachter. Gewicht und Dichte des Materials im Raum sind zentrale Themen im Schaffen von Bernhard Luginbühl. Jean Tinguely, ein künstlerischer Wegbegleiter und Freund des Eisenplastikers, hat den Inhalt von Luginbühls Arbeiten einmal mit folgenden Worten treffend charakterisiert: „Luginbühls Plastik ist an Ort stabilisierte Dynamik, und damit sprengt sie Statik".
