Catalogue Note

Zeitlebens unternahm der begeisterte Bergwanderer Hans Beat Wieland auf der Suche nach Motiven für seine Kunst zahlreiche Wanderungen, vor allem in der Schweiz, aber auch in Schweden und Norwegen. In diesem Werk aus seiner Reifezeit hielt er das stimmungsvolle Zusammentreffen von Luft, Licht und Erde auf eindrückliche Weise fest. In einem sehr realistischen Stil bildete der Künstler die Malojaschlange ab, jene graue quellende Wolkenwalze, die unter bestimmten Wetterbedingungen über den Malojapass ins Engadin kriecht, um sich dort sofort wieder aufzulösen. Wieland gelang es somit, aus einer konventionellen Alpenansicht eine spannungsgeladene Momentaufnahme zu machen.
