Bei unserem Gemälde handelt es sich um ein Hauptwerk von Robert Zünd. Dargestellt ist die Schellenmatt bei Kriens vergleichbare Fassungen befinden sich im Kunstmuseum Luzern als Depositum der Eidgenössischen Gottfried Keller-Stiftung und in bedeutenden Schweizer Privatsammlungen. Motive, die Zünd besonders faszinierten, wie der vorliegende Landschaftsausschnitt, aber auch die Mühle von Rathausen oder Eichwald, hielt der Maler in mehreren Varianten fest. Die vorliegende, durchsonnte Landschaft mit den Menschen, den mächtigen Nussbäumen und dem Bauernhaus im Hintergrund zeigt, dass Zünd ein Meister in der Wiedergabe von atmosphärischen Stimmungen eines Ortes war. Er sah die Welt, in der er lebte, als lichterfülltes Paradies.
