Dunst und duftiges Gewölk liegt über der Engadiner Hochebene, so dass die imposante Bergkulisse im Hintergrund sich kompakt und schemenhaft ausnimmt. In träge Mittagsruhe versunken, leuchtet der Weiler oberhalb Maloja aus dem saftigen Grün der blühenden Wiese und aus den verschatteten monumentalen Felsbrocken hervor. Vom Künstler auf den oberhalb vorbeiführenden Weg placiert, kann das Betrachterauge den weiten Blick über die Talsohle und die schimmernde Seefläche schweifen lassen. Giovanni Giacometti hat es verstanden, mit breitem Pinsel die feinen Farbwechsel des Bergsommertages festzuhalten und in variantenreichen Kontrasten zum Leuchten zu bringen. Ein besonderes Augenmerk verdienen die opulent gemalten Schattenzonen, deren Buntheit die koloristische Meisterschaft des Künstlers deutlich machen.
