the bodies partly gadrooned and applied with band of stiff leaves and anthemia, engraved on both sides with contemporary arms and supporters, the reeded loop handles springing from lion heads and centered by shells, raised on four paw feet headed by classical foliage, the conforming covers with loop finails, engraved with hound and unicorn crests, removable liners with matching crests, fully marked, tureens and covers numbered 434, liners by Philip Rundell, 1821

Catalogue Note
The arms are those of Portman impaling Hulse, for Edward Berkeley Portman, of Bryanston, Co. Dorset, and his second wife Mary, Daughter of Sir Edward Hulse, 3rd Bt. of Breamore House, Wiltshire, whom he married on 22 March 1816. His son of the same name became Baron Portman of Orchard Portman in 1837, and Viscount Portman of Bryanston in 1873. Bryanston House became a school in 1928.
