Catalogue Note

These dishes come from an extensive banqueting service ordered in 1863 by the newly-proclaimed King of Greece, Prince William George of Denmark (1845-1913).  His sister Alexandra married Edward, Prince of Wales, in March of 1863, which probably helped lead to the choice of the English Royal Goldsmiths to fullfill this order.  The extensive service included flatware, tea wares, toast racks, mustard pots, and various other items necessary to establish the dignity of the new Hellenic court.
