Description

  • Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell
  • island of rum from iona
  • signed l.r.: F C B Cadell; inscribed with the title to the reverse
  • oil on board

Provenance

Edinburgh, Aitken Dott & Son;
Private Collection

Condition

The board is sound with some extremely minor undulations in places. On close inspection there appear to be some minor cosmetic cracking running vertically to the surface. There are some further light marks marks (possibly intrinsic to the grain of the wood) running both vertically and horizontally to the board. Otherwise the work appears to be in good condition, clean and with fresh colours. Ultraviolet light reveals some fluorescent areas of white pigment to much of the lower half but this is likely to be intrinsic to the work. There are a number of areas of cosmetic retouchings and infillings to various areas of the work. Held in a simply decorated gold finished wooden frame in fair condition.
