Catalogue Note
Baroness Robert de Rothschild (née Gabrielle Nelly Régine Beer 1886-1945), wife of international banker Baron Robert de Rothschild, was a glamorous blonde-haired beauty and a celebrated pre-war Paris socialite. In 1940, fearing their safety, the Rothschilds abandoned their prominent Avenue Marigny town house in Paris and fled to New York City with their two daughters. Troubetzkoy also did a portrait of Baron Robert as well as well as a model of one of his thoroughbred horses.
