Catalogue Note

Like the Order of the White Eagle, the Order of St. Stanislaus was originally a Polish award, becoming fully integrated into the Russian system of honours following the Insurrection of 1831.  From 1839 it was awarded in three classes and the usual central medallion bearing the initials 'SS' was replaced by the Imperial Eagle for non-Christian recipients.
