A silver-gilt and cloisonné enamel icon of the Tikhvinskaya Mother of God, Ivan Tarabrov, Moscow, 1893-1913

the robes of the Virgin and Christ Child highlighted in gilt, mounted with polychrome enamel halos decorated with stars and scrolling foliage, the corner pieces enamelled in similar colours, centred with raised rosettes, on the upper left border the Guardian Angel, lower left the warrior Saint Uar, the upper right the Bishop Antipas, lower right the martyr Irina,  84 standard

The silver-gilt has rubbed visibly throughout, the enamel appears to be in good condition apart from the enamel name plaque which has evidence of chipping and cracks. UV light reveals no further damage. There are areas of paint loss on the Virgin's cheek, the blue head-piece, her neck and her robes. The gilding around the Christ child's fingers has possibly been retouched at a later date. We would advise prospective buyers to view.
