Condition

The board is sound. There is some light surface dirt and discoloured varnish. There are two very fine surface scratches to the centre and fine lines of craquelure throughout. UV light reveals no signs of retouching. Held in a painted plaster frame an unexamined out of frame.

The subject of this informal portrait has been identified as Shura from a double portrait of the same year whre Makovsky depicted him alongside his friend, Vasya and which he titled in the top right hand corner (fig.1).
