Catalogue Note

Vladimir Nikolaevich Bashkirov was the director of the Volga Kamskii Bank in Nizhnii-Novgorod, prior to the Russian Revolution. He emigrated to the United States in 1919 and was one of the few Russian emigrĂ©s who was able to retain his fortune in the post-1917 turmoil.  Bashkirov was a very serious collector of Russian avante-garde art, who benefited from the advice and friendship of Mikhail Larionov.  Together, they created one of the most important collections of Russian art.
