glazed earthenware body, impressed with the mark of the Ceramic Workshop of the Imperial Stroganov School and the partially obscured date 1904, the gilded mounts cast with Neo-Russian ornament and set with seven cabochon stones, marked K. Fabergé in Cyrillic with Imperial warrant and 84 standard

Catalogue Note

Under the direction of Georgy Monakhov, the Imperial Stroganov School's ceramic workshop experimented extensively with new glazes that allowed ceramics to imitate other materials such as metal or jewels.  In this case, the ceramic body has been glazed to imitate the wood of a traditional kovsh.
