Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This canvas has been lined and the paint layer is stable. It is most likely quite dirty and appears for the most part to be undamaged. The varnish is rather old and milky under ultraviolet light. There may be some restorations which are not visible under ultraviolet light, it is unlikely. The only apparent retouches are in the water beneath the boat in the center. In general, the condition seems to be very good and the painting will respond well to cleaning.
