Condition
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
This painting is in lovely state, has never been removed from its original stretcher and has most likely never been cleaned. The paint layer is quite dirty. The canvas is a little wavy, particularly in the upper center, yet this is no reason to line the canvas. There do not appear to be any paint losses or restorations and the picture should be lightly cleaned and varnished.
The artist himself seems to have enlarged the picture very slightly on the right side and some old tack holes are visible, yet it is a very small task to repair these small holes, unless this small amount of loss is to be covered with the frame.
