Description
- Vasily Alexandrovich Kotarbinsky
- Cleopatra
- signed in Latin l.r.
- oil on canvas
- 135 by 246cm., 52 3/4 by 96 3/4 in.
Condition
The canvas is original but appears to have been strip-lined. There is an area of waxed lining 50cm long to the reverse corresponding to an area of paint shrinkage or old damage in the upper left hand region of the painting. There are small patches of craquelure in places, most visible centre left and to the birds. There are scattered areas of overpainting throughout, mostly to the sky and along the bottom of the work. This is confirmed when the picture is viewed under ultraviolet light. They appear to address areas of craquelure and paintloss. Held in a modern gold painted plaster frame.
