Description

  • 'Adam and Eve': A Pair of Sculptures
  • 134cm. and 129cm. high respectively;
  • 4ft 4¾in.; 4ft. 2¾in.
modelled in plaster, Adam with his right hand raised and Eve standing beside a flowering plant

Condition

A stylish pair. The figures have been repainted and show signs of previous coatings in places. Old marks and scratches consistent with age. There are a number of cracks, breakages, restorations and minor losses in places, and both figures have portions which are quite loose. The figures are constructed upon wire forms, visible to one of the leaves of the flowering stem. Surfaces are irregular, consistent with material and age. Surface has flaked in places, such as to the backs and the leg of the woman; this has in some cases been stabilised by the later paint. It is possible that these pieces have been outside at some point in their lives. The statues would benefit from additional stablisation and restoration.
