Provenance

'Friendship' and 'Widdow', D.M. & P. Manheim Antiques, New York

Condition

'Friendship': Generally good condition. A portion of the bocage above the left-hand figure appears to have been broken away; however, this loss is factory-related, as the it is enamelled and fired-over. 'Tenderness' on square base: his right arm is broken and restored back at the elbow and the portion of the garland he is holding is restored, probably made-up; the bocage is restored and overpainted along its entire edge, probably covering some chips and losses. 'Widow': 1/4-in flat chip to the bottom edge of the base at the back; the tip of the spout of the cruse has a tiny pinhead chip; there is a tiny pinhead chip to the tip of a leaf on the top edge of the bocage and several minor flakes to the blue enamel of the flowers. 'Tenderness': One half of a flowerhead applied to the garland is chipped away, the end of one leaf of the garland is also chipped away, otherwise good.
