Condition
Restoration and chips around gray marble base banding beneath brown onyx. Minor chips to onyx around edges mostly to the back. Traces of filler and restoration in pklaces. Visible seams where her arms join her bracelets and there is slight movement to these joints. One finger tip restored. Pedestal in good condition with some scratches and nicks.

Catalogue Note
Isis was the Ancient Egyptian goddess celebrated as the ideal mother and wife, patron of nature and magic, friend of slaves and sinners. The present sculpture shows a follower of the goddess lying carefree on a Sphynx headed temple stair, rendered by the artist with the most sensual curves and sly smile so much in keeping with the late 19th-century tradition of engaging the viewer in the artist's own dreamy interpretations.
The sculpture studio Cervietti in Pietrasanta, Tuscany, was founded by Danielo and is still active today and run by his son Franco.
