Condition

Overall in good original condition with the usual wear to the patina in places especially to the top of head, arms and legs consistent with handling and touching. Light scratches and dirt consistent with age. Pedestal overall in good condition with some small chips. Varnished. Traces of restoration in many places.

Catalogue Note

Auguste Paris studied under François Jouffroy, Alexandre Falguière, and Amedée Doublemard. He began exhibiting at the Salon in 1876 and won numerous prizes during his career, the highest being Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1892. He won many public commissions for the town of Paris, notably the Danton monument at the Boulevard Saint-Germain.
