Overall in good condition with the usual minor scratches, dents and nicks to veneers and carcass consistent with age and use. Some age cracks on both sides. Slight tarnishing to gilt-bronze in places. Marble top with usual marks and chips and with some repairs visible only on the underside.

The present commode is richly ornamented by finely cast and chiseled bronze decoration, all taken from the 16th century decorative art vocabulary. Notably, the iconic lion pelt cast chutes derive from the Bureau du Roi, one of the most important pieces of 18th century furniture made for King Louis XV. Began in 1760 by Jean-François Oeben, it was finally completed in May 1769 by Oeben's successor, Jean-Henri Riesener.

The casting mark HPR has recently been seen on the international market on high end furniture. To this day, no attribution to the bronzier has been found.
