Condition
The marble surface with traces of dirt consistent with handling that can easily be cleaned. There are areas of restoration with resin and then painted in white which is now flaking to: the back of female's head approx 1 1/2 in. high by 2 in. wide; the spoon and parts of female's finger to right hand; baby's right hand; one stretcher of stool; big toe of baby's right foot; restoration to female's left earring. Overall with the usual minor scratches and pitting to surface.

Catalogue Note
Pereda was a renowned sculptor active in Lombardi after studying at the Accademia de Brera. He exhibited frequently at the main Italian Salons, notably in Torino with in 1869 La prima Lezione, 1871 La Prima Comiunone, 1880 La Rete d'Amore, and in 1882 Piccolo Africano e Piccola Africana, amongst others. He also participated in three exhibitions in London in 1874, 1876, and 1888.
