Catalogue Note

First edition of this portion of the Hebrew Bible. The Soncino decorative initials and panels are commonly referred to as woodcuts, but are much more likely to have been metalcuts or perhaps metal castings. It seems not to have been noticed by bibliographers that, as with four or five other Hebrew incunables, the explicit colophon date indicates completion on a Saturday.
