Catalogue Note
Zevahim (Animal Sacrifices), is the first tractate in the order Kodashim. Just as tractate Hullin is also called Shehitat Hullin (The Slaughter of Profane Animals, i.e., for human consumption), so Zevahim has the alternate name Shehitat Kodashim (The Slaughter of Sacrificial Animals) and deals almost exclusively with the regulations for the slaughter of animals and birds for Temple worship.
