Description

  • Vargueño: 68 by 114 by 42 cm., stand: 85 by 85 by 52 cm.
of walnut, the sides, drop-front and edges enforced with straps of wrought iron, pierced with lions and foliate strapwork, the interior fitted with twelve drawers arranged around a central compartment that houses three further drawers, the drawer fronts partly gilt, inlaid and applied with tablets of bone and spirally twisted colonettes; with stand of later date, carved with lion's faces and supported on spirally fluted columns

Condition

Interior well preserved however two colonettes missing from central door, drawer fronts bottom left and bottom right also missing colonette, the exterior with stains and darkened by age, ironwork oxidised, the central hasp wanting colonette, one locking bolt also missing; stand slightly loose in the joints
