The actual painting is darker in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The painting is on its original 20th-Century canvas. The paint surface is not in a very good condition, it is thin and abraded, the canvas structure shines through. Areas of overpaint visible in the white cloth and drapery and in Diana's body. There is an uneven layer of varnish, which is covered with surface dirt. Inspection under UV-light is impeded by the uneven varnish layer. Offered in a modern gilt wood frame, with a few chips. (JD)
