Condition
The painting is warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The canvas has a relining. The paint layer has somewhat flattend and abraded in some places such as the blue dress of the Virgin Mary. Overall the painting is in good condition, the paint surface has a dense craquelure pattern and is under a dirty and discoloured varnish layer.
Inspection under UV-light reveals spots of retouching in the foliage and rocks to the left, in Saint Elizabeth's yellow dress and in the upper angel's wings. The central figures appear to be well preserved.
Offered in a decorative gilt plaster frame, with a few damages and chips. (JD)
