Catalogue Note
The inscription on the socle of the male bust may be amplified to read Eques Carolus Maria de Judicibus.
The inscription on the two socles refers to Prince Antonio Barbiani Di Belgiojoso (1693-1779) who was elected a member of the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1763. The prince's likeness was reproduced on gold and silver coins of Lombardy, each dated 1769. This does appear somewhat different to the likeness of the male bust offered herewith.
