A good late Baroque ivory tankard with silver-gilt mounts, attributed to Johann Jakob Betzoldt (1621-1707) circa 1680-1690

the drum carved in high relief with a bacchanalian frieze, performed by children and infant satyrs in festive mood, the foot and cover plain, joined by a generous scroll handle boldly cast with acanthus leaves and the head of a child, the thumb rest formed by a merman and a mermaid in loving embrace, the drum split into two halves due to shrinkage, the silver marked inside the base plate

In overall good condition, slightly soiled. Minor wear and oxidation to the mounts. Two larger vertical splits running through the whole drum and some minor related losses to the carvings. Few tiny chips to the extremities.
