A German ornamental drinking cup late 19th century in Renaissance style

the navette-shaped bowl probably of smoky quartz, well carved with the face of a sea dragon and incised with gadroons and scrolling leaves, the mounts of silver-gilt, forming a sea monster's face around the rear end of the bowl, the eyes inlaid with cabochon garnets, applied with scroll handle inlaid with table-cut garnets supported on a 'quatre-foil' base, also inlaid and applied with garnets, the knob inlaid with point-cut garnets

In overall good condition with some minor wear to the mounts, minor light surface scratching to the bowl. The bowl with two areas of fine cracks within the stone. The first, three-part crack to the back part of the bowl, the second (two cracks with related bruises) and a small dent to the rim, right under the tip of the mount. An attractive piece.
