Condition
Both panels are a bit darker in tone and have less contrast in the colours than the catalogue illustration suggests.
Both paintings have been relined which has flattened the paint surface a bit. Thinness occurs throughout but especially in the background of the first illustrated painting in the catalogue and the foliage to the right in the second painting. Otherwise the paint layer is stable and no damages are visible; the craquelure pattern is dense and irregular. Surface dirt upper left corner of the second illustrated painting. Retouchings are visible in the sky of the first painting.
Both paintings have a glossy and discoloured varnish layer with some splotches.
Inspection under UV-light reveals additional scattered retouchings in the lower left and in the area along the right side of the first painting. In the second one, small scattered retouchings are visible in the lower and upper right and in the lower left corner.
Offered in two similar gilt plaster frames with Louis XV-style ornaments in the corner, in fair condition. (JD)
