Description

  • Pierre Mignard
  • Portrait of a lady, possibly Maria Mancini (1639-1715), seated half-length, wearing a richly embroidered dress and a blue shawl
  • oil on canvas, oval
  • 91.5 by 72.7 cm.

Condition

The illustration is representative for the actual painting. The painting has a thin relining. The paint surface is somewhat flattened and thin, especially in the hair and darker hues. No damages are visible to the naked eye, only spots of retouching in the flesh colours, e.g. her face, low neckline and arms. The paint surface is under a yellowed varnish layer. Inspection under UV-light confirms abovementioned retouchings and reveals additional ones throughout, but mainly in her hair, her face and low neckline as well as some scattered spots in the blue shawl. Offered in an old decorative oval-in-a-square frame, with damages and chips. (JD)
