Description

  • Barend van der Meer
  • Still life of blue and white grapes, a peach and strawberries in a porcelain bowl and basket, together with cherries and a roemer, all on a marble ledge
  • oil on canvas
  • 62.2 by 50.6 cm

Condition

The actual painting is a bit warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The painting has a firm relining, which has flattened the paint layer. Abrasion is visible in the green grapes and the leaves in the background. Minor frame abrasion along the edges. The paint surface is in stable condition, no damages are visible. Some discoloured retouchings are visible in the upper left background. The paint surface is under a glossy and somewhat discoloured varnish layer. Inspection under UV-light is largely impeded by the varnish layer, but strengthening of the wicker basket becomes apparent as well as some retouchings in the blue grapes, strawberries and cherries to the left. Offered in a decorative gilt plaster frame, in good condition. (JD)
