Description

  • A wounded deer lying on a rock in a landscape
  • oil on canvas
  • 63.5 by 151 cm.

Condition

The actual painting has less contrast than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has a relining. The paint surface has several scattered paint losses and small damages as shown in the catalogue illustration. Some spots of retouching are visible to the naked eye in the darker parts of the background area and some spots in the deer. The paint surface is under a dirty and discoloured varnish layer. Inspection under UV-light confirms the abovementioned retouchings and reveals additional ones scattered throughout, for example in the lower hind leg and area of the deer's head (probably a small tear). Offered in a plain wood frame, with damages and chips. (JD)
