  • various sizes, ranging from 63.5 by 64 cm up to 80 by 75.5 cm.

Condition

The paintings are less bright and have less contrast than the catalogue illustration suggests. Seven paintings are unlined and three are canvas laid down on panel and are restored (Albert I, Rudolph II and Ferdinand I). The canvas of the unlined paintings is somewhat loose on the stretchers. As visible in the catalogue illustrations, all of the unlined paintings have damages and extensive paint losses. The paint surface of these paintings is not in good condition and there is a tendency towards flaking in all of them. The paint surface is covered with surface dirt and under a discoloured and dull varnish layer. However, it seems that they have never been touched, since no retouchings or overpaints are visible or become apparent under UV-light inspection. However, due to their current condition, these seven paintings need to be cleaned and restored. The paintings on board are in a much better condition, the paint surface is stable, although not in perfect condition. The three paintings on board have been retouched of which the portrait of Rudolph II has the most extensive retouchings; the portrait of Ferdinand I has been preserved the best. Offered unframed.
