Condition

Respectable overall condition. The canvas has been relined (very strong). Under ultraviolet light: There are several retouches in the face of Christ to fill in the cracks. Some restorations in the neck and in the white tunic. The Christ left hand has been repainted. The varnish has been partly removed and the red drapery remains under an old varnish.

Avant d'être redécouvert, notre tableau était connu par une gravure de Pierre Daret datée 1635 qui fut exécutée parallèlement à un pendant représentant la Vierge (voir J. Thuillier, op. cit., p. 236, gravures reproduites p. 237).
