Condition
Very good condition overall with a few minor chips to the surface at several places. The surface of the terracotta appears to have been cleaned. In the back of his head, a few losses to the catogan. Fine terracotta.

Catalogue Note
Ce portrait est remarquable par la virtuosité du modelé rendant avec finesse chaque détail. L'homme porte une perruque bouclée rassemblée à l'arrière en catogan, et est vêtu d'une veste boutonnée devant avec un foulard à dentelle noué autour du cou. On remarque la vivacité de son regard, dirigé vers le bas, ses yeux aux pupilles incisées pétillant avec grande fraîcheur et ses lèvres sensuelles légèrement entrouvertes. Cette terre cuite n'est pas sans rappeller les oeuvres d'Augustin Pajou, virtuose de l'art du portrait, à une époque où les commanditaires exigeaient des portraits resssemblants, pleins d'énergie et de finesse psychologique.
