Catalogue Note
President Van Buren calls a fellow New Yorker to the last Congressional session of his presidency for the inauguration of William Henry Harrison.
"Certain matters touching the public good requiring that the Senate of the United States should be convened on Thursday the fourth day of March next, you are desired to attend at the Senate Chamber in the City of Washington on that day, then and there to receive and deliberate on such communications as shall be made to you."
Nathaniel Pitcher Tallmadge (1795-1864) was elected to the United States Senate from New York in 1833, serving until 1844 when he was appointed governor of the Wisconsin Territory. Van Buren held the same Senate seat from 1821-1828.
