Catalogue Note

A fine photograph of Thomas Edison at work at his desk, inscribed in the lower right corner, "Friend Murray, In 1879 I invented the incandesent lamp. Thos A Edison." 

Edison first successful test of the light bulb was achieved on 22 October 1879 in his laboratory at Menlo Park, N.J. He filed for a U.S. patent on 4 November and it was granted two months later.
