Catalogue Note
"[I]n the Little Rock situation ... there was no alternative to the plain duty I had in the matter."
In this letter, written just one month after the momentous events leading up to the integration of Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, the President writes to thank Sarazen for a box of prize-winning apples he has sent to the Eisenhowers. He ends the letter with a brief remark on the controversial events of the preceding month: "Thank you, too, for your comments about the decision I had to make in the Little Rock situation; actually, there was no alternative to the plain duty I had in the matter."
