Catalogue Note

President Truman appoints his second ambassador to the United Nations.

Warren Austin (1877-1962) was elected to the Senate in 1931, but resigned to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from 1946 to 1953. As can be seen by the accompanying announcement to the Senate, he worked with Arthur Vandenberg, Eleanor Roosevelt, John Foster Dulles, and Adlai Stevenson.
