- 'clearing winter storm, yosemite national park'
mounted, signed by the photographer in pencil on the mount, his Carmel Studio stamp (BMFA 11), titled in an unidentified hand in pencil, on the reverse, matted, framed, circa 1938, printed in the 1970s (Morgan & Morgan, pl. 71; This Is the American Earth, pp. 84-85; 400 Photographs, p. 123; Portfolios, p. 49; Yosemite and the Range of Light, cover; Examples, p. 102; Autobiography, p. 243; Classic Images, pl. 46; Letters and Images, p. 369; Yosemite: Ansel Adams, pl. 1; Ansel Adams at 100, p. 89; 101 Years of California Photography, p. 128)
Condition
This print is in generally excellent condition. There is a 5/8-inch strip on the mount around the periphery of the print that is sunned. In raking light, the following are visible: tiny deposits of original retouching; a very small, faint scuff in the upper left sky area; 2 tiny, barely noticeable indentations in the upper right sky area; and a very small, barely discernable mounting bubble near the upper right corner.
Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career. The authors' assessment of the use dates of stamp 11 on the reverse of this print is 1973 to 1977.
