Provenance

Sotheby's New York, 7 April 1998, Sale 7112, Lot 369

Acquired by the present owner from the above

Condition

These early ferrotyped contact prints, on medium-weight paper, with rough edges as if torn from larger sheets of photographic paper rather than trimmed with scissors, are in fair to good condition. Each has significant wear at the edges, with small emulsion losses at the margin edges and the corners. When examined in raking light, each has numerous small sharp handling creases throughout, and uneven ferrotyping at the right and lower edges. 'Rue Aubriot' has a strip of faint discoloration at the top edge of the print and, in raking light, several fingerprints are visible. 'Paloma Picasso' has faint discoloration at the right and lower edges and, in raking light, the letters from photographer's title on the reverse are visible. These issues are not obvious from a normal viewing distance.
